Change has got to change!
Why do ALL professional cash register administrators hand back your
change the same way? Bills first, then coins. It's always the same. And
it's wrong. Big time.
You see, the bills first then change method is flawed in so many ways:
1- It causes you to do an awkward balancing act as you try to pull your
hand away without letting the change slip off the bill.
2- If you're like me you put bills in your wallet or purse (I don't use
a purse but you might... woman) before the coins. Thus, assuming you
don't have to bend over to pick up the coins that fell, getting the
change into your wallet requires lifting the coins off the bills,
inserting the bills, and then inserting the coins. This is yet another
obstacle that could cause you to once again drop your coins.
Now- don't think I'm being critical without warrant. I have worked as a
professional cash register administrator, and I NEVER handed back change
in this manner. I always did coins first, then bills. It's so much more
natural. You can grip the coins in your palm and hold the bills with
your fingers. Of course it also makes the insertion process into the
wallet or purse (you purse carrying wuss) much easier. Bills first. Then
the coins are right there in your palm ready for insertion.
You should have seen the faces of the hundreds of people I helped. As I
would go to hand them their change, their faces would pucker as they
prepared for the coin balancing circus act. Then a beam of light would
shine on their presence as they would realize they had FINALLY found a
professional cash register administrator who got it.
It was just my little way of saying, "Thanks for shopping here, I
appreciate you."
But I didn't really like the job so I quit after a few months.
Still though- put my change in my hand right... jerk.
